World 800 metre champion Caster Semenya has been cleared to compete against women following her gender test last year.

In a statement on Tuesday, the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) has given the South African the all-clear to return to competitive racing after an 11-month exile.

"The process initiated in 2009 in the case of Caster Semenya (RSA) has now been completed," read the statement.

"The IAAF accepts the conclusion of a panel of medical experts that she can compete with immediate effect.

"Please note that the medical details of the case remain confidential and the IAAF will make no further comment on the matter."

The 19-year-old has not raced since her victory at the World Championships in Berlin last August after which she was asked to take a gender verification test, but could now make her return to competition at the World Junior Championships in Canada on July 19.
